Winter Spirits

It was such a long time ago
We were angels in the snow
Lying on the frozen lake
Catching all the snowflakes
Then the snow began to fall
And you declared a free-for-all
I kissed you on your swollen thumb
When all our fingers turned to numb

Christmas time had come and gone
Winter spirits we call upon
















Fairy lights on the tree
Singing to the family
Santa on the chimney top
Waiting round to see him drop
Later in the afternoon
Underneath the winter moon
Carol singers at the door
We were hiding on the floor

Driving home fast asleep
Lying in the backseat
Sleigh bells on the window frames
Oh the rain was such a shame
We were in a Tinseltown
Decorations on the ground
Toasting to the yuletide
Finding room for gifts to hide

Peace to us on this day
Let’s celebrate a holiday
Winter days and holy nights
Gathering by candlelight
All the school nativities
Sharing the festivities
This is what it means to me
Not just for the shopping sprees
